80% Local by 2025?

 So I was reading, "Rewilding the Way" by Todd Wynward over these past few weeks, and something that really has hit deep with me is the whole 80% local food by 2025 challenge he puts forward.  Now I might not have taken much thought to it, but he lives in Northern New Mexico near Taos, in an area not much different from us.  If he can make this challenge, why cant I too?

Now, I know not everyone can get up to 80%, but if not food, could not we try other items, what ever doable? Would not our world be better supporting our local businesses, farmers, craftsmen/women, artists, and such?  There are always items we cant get locally, and special treat foods for special days to support our truckers... and cannot we come up with other ways to help create jobs, like maybe local delivery to families who cant go to local markets because of locations? After all, it's been done before...

 Gardening, especially wild gardening, can be a cool option too.  It's the one I am looking into.  Wild gardening is mix of using native plants to ones area, permaculture, and reintroducing plants once grown in ones area (less mono-culture), and letting them grow semi-wild.  That mixed with some very old rare heirloom seeds.


What are your pros and cons with the #80localby2025 challenge?  What can we look at as rewilders and non-rewilders alike?

Why rewild instead of just homestead?

Rewilding, wild gardening, why am I rewilding instead of just homesteading?  Well, homesteading can be part of the same industrial industry that causes so many issues today. Good organic/all natural homesteading can be a form of rewilding, think permaculture and the likes, but for me it will be more a mix of wild gardening and permaculture. Homesteading while a good step back, just was not far enough back for me.  My husband, who is a hiker, does like a wee bit for corn and a few items that he requires. I am trying an indoor kitchen herb garden for ease of cooking.
